October 8 was the deadline to apply for the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation's project management course for women in solar power plant construction.
The project was made possible with the support of Mercy Corps in partnership with KSE Graduate Business School. The Solar Step program was developed specifically to develop human resources in the solar energy sector in Ukraine and provide women with opportunities for professional development in this field.
For over a month, motivated Ukrainian women of all ages and professional backgrounds registered to participate in the competitive selection process for the training program. This was not just a matter of "automatically submitting an application with a few clicks." These were conscious, determined women who were genuinely interested in the solar energy industry. They wrote us interesting, poignant, and inspiring letters of motivation. We are sharing the most convincing and touching excerpts from some of these letters here for posterity:
"After de-occupation, I want to develop my region."
"I am currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After my contract ends, I want to try my hand at a promising industry."
"I see enormous potential in developing solar power plants in Ukraine, both for achieving energy independence and for creating new opportunities for communities and veterans."
"I want to fulfill my university dream of working in the sun."
"I want to be involved in the reconstruction and development of Ukraine's energy sector."
"I believe this area will be very important after Ukraine’s victory."
"My experience has led me to a goal: to develop Ukraine's energy autonomy for the future."
"I dream of working alongside my husband, who installs solar panels, in a family business."
"I want to give my children the best childhood and future possible."
"After losing my city of Pokrovsk, I want to contribute to something that benefits humanity."
"It is important to me to do something meaningful and beneficial."
We would like to remind you that, over the course of four months, participants will acquire basic knowledge and practical skills, as well as access to a network of contacts. These resources will increase their chances of achieving professional fulfilment in the solar energy industry. Upon completion of the training program, the top participants will receive official certificates and assistance in finding employment with leading industry companies.
"Since September 1, we have received more than 1,450 applications, which far exceeds our expectations! I am impressed because only 50 spots are available. Now, our team is faced with two important tasks. The first is selecting the most motivated participants for the course from all the applicants. The second is finding opportunities for the rest of those interested in solar energy to get involved, which is no less important or difficult," said Bohdan Balagura, head of the Solar Step project.
The 50 participants selected for the course will receive invitations to attend from October 15 to 17. Due to limited space, some participants may not be able to join the group this year. We ask that you not be disappointed or upset—we are already doing everything possible to ensure that Solar Step does not end with just one course.
