Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation at a UN General Assembly Side Event in New York
Updated: 3 hours ago
Yuliana Onyshchuk, CEO & Founder of the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation, presented Ukraine’s experience in energy resilience at the XXXVII High-Level Meeting of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, “Rebuilding Trust, Cooperation and Global Stability for a Shared Future” — a side event of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Held at the Harvard Club of New York, the event brought together heads of state, representatives of the United Nations and international organizations, political leaders, and energy sector experts to discuss security, international cooperation, and global resilience.
Yuliana took part in the panel discussion “Energy, Security and Climate: Managing the Triple Transition”, alongside representatives of UN ESCWA, SOCAR, WWF, former presidents and prime ministers of European countries, and international experts.
What Ukraine Brought to the Discussion
The full-scale war has turned Ukraine’s energy system into an unprecedented stress test — and this experience offers lessons that extend far beyond the country:
· Energy security requires long-term international cooperation.
· Diversification gives countries greater resilience and more options to act during crises.
· Decarbonization and the development of new technologies are not only matters of climate policy but also a foundation for future energy security.
· Civil society can transform emergency assistance into long-term capacity.
At this level, Ukraine speaks not only about the consequences of destruction, but also about the experience, solutions, and expertise that can benefit other countries.
This approach lies at the heart of the Foundation’s work: practical experience gained during the war is transformed into knowledge, human capital development, and the capacity of communities to build a resilient energy future.
The Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation thanks the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, Professor Ismail Serageldin, and Rza Aliyev for organizing the discussion, as well as Melanne Verveer and the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security for the invitation and for their support of Ukraine and Ukrainian women.
