As part of a grant from the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF), the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation delivered the educational course "Sustainable Development and Green Energy" to 758 children in just two months of 2025. Additionally, 112 children participated in educational tours of real solar power plants.
"Sustainable Development and Green Energy" is a unique course developed by the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation. Over the past three years, 996 students in 13 educational institutions have completed the course, indicating a growing interest in environmental awareness among young people. In total, more than 1,500 children have acquired basic skills in sustainable development, gaining knowledge that will help them develop environmentally responsible thinking and engage in solving global challenges.
Modern challenges require us to rethink our approach to ecology, energy consumption, and the education of the next generation. That is why we launched this program to introduce schoolchildren to the importance of renewable energy and to encourage the formation of sustainable habits in daily life.
Lectures that inspire action
During the two spring months of 2025, we educated 758 students in various towns and villages:
Mykolaivka, Sofiivka, Chaplynka (Dnipro region);
Katyuzhanka (Kyiv region);
Voznesensk (Mykolaiv region);
Velykyi Dalnyk (Odesa region);
Velyka Dymerka (Kyiv region);
Zhytomyr.
In addition to educational institutions, we also held courses for children who are beneficiaries of charitable foundations that became our partners.
We sincerely thank the foundations and organizations that share the values of sustainable development and support educational initiatives for children:
Rokada Foundation provides support to internally displaced persons, refugees, asylum seekers, and war-affected communities in 17 regions of Ukraine;
saveED foundation helps communities restore access to education;
Children of Heroes Charity Fund offers long-term support to children who lost one or both parents as a result of russias war against Ukraine;
Go Global education foundation empowers the new generation of Ukrainians through development and education.
"The Sustainable Development and Green Energy" course is our initiative, specifically designed for children, considering their age and interests. It lasts for one month and consists of four extracurricular sessions, which include:
basics of renewable energy and sustainable development;
concept of hybrid solar power plants;
everyday changes that have a real ecological impact;
discussion of environmental solutions that can be implemented today.
Learning through experience, play, and inspiration
We believe that education should not only be informative but also inspiring. Thats why the children didn't just listen they actively engaged, competed, and were motivated to act. Eco-battles, Q&A contests, prizes for the most active participants, and raffles for completed tasks all of this became part of the journey we undertook together.
For children, this course was more than a series of lessons it was a true starting point for a conscious ecological future. They saw how every daily decision from sorting waste to choosing energy sources changes the environment. Most importantly, they realized they have the power to make a difference today.
Excursions to real solar power plants
Children also had the opportunity to visit real solar power stations and literally touch the knowledge they gained during the course. 112 children from different parts of Ukraine participated in educational excursions to solar power plants.
During the trips, the children learned how solar power plants work, studied their construction, discussed weather conditions that influence their efficiency, and talked about the role of ecological habits in preserving the planet. Most importantly, they saw how green energy is already changing our world today.
Partnership for a sustainable future
We sincerely thank our partners who share the values of sustainable development and support educational initiatives for children. These include Scatec and other organizations that helped make the excursions possible.
The project is implemented with financial support from the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF). The content of the course is the sole responsibility of the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation and does not necessarily reflect the views of the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF).
