ENERGY ACT FOR UKRAINE FOUNDATION
The Cardiology dispensary in Ukraine’s Kirovohrad region is a key medical facility specializing in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Each year, nearly 35,900 patients receive medical care here, and doctors perform close to 4,500 complex heart surgeries, some lasting up to six hours.
During cardiac surgery, an uninterrupted power supply is absolutely critical: even a few seconds of power loss can put a patient’s life at risk. Ensuring the energy resilience of this medical facility therefore became a top priority for The Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation.
The Foundation installed a 30 kW hybrid solar power station at the dispensary, which will generate more than 40,000 kWh of clean electricity annually. Given the facility’s high energy demand, the project also includes an energy storage system with a capacity of 204.8 kWh—the largest battery system implemented by the Foundation in the healthcare sector to date. This system can provide up to four hours of uninterrupted power for critical operating theatre equipment, even during a complete external power outage.
In addition to strengthening energy security, the solar power station will deliver annual savings of approximately UAH 344,000 and help prevent 423 tonnes of CO2 emissions over 25 years, aligning with the principles of sustainable development and responsible resource use.
The project was implemented by The Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation in cooperation with The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), De Boomgaard Foundation, Solarge (NL), and the charity Life Line.
